Autumn is my favourite season.
The light changes. The air feels softer. Our senses and intuition feel a little more attuned.
As the leaves brown and fall showing us the physical passing of time all around us, we naturally become more introspective.
These transitional times into new seasons, can bring up mixed feelings in each of us: relief, sadness, urgency, gratitude, surrender…and those may feel activating or more sensitive, as our nervous system is still adjusting to the external & internal shifts.
So we are given a choice here: ignore our inherent cyclical nature and keep moving at the Summer pace, or take this as an opportunity to practice radical self compassion, respect and curiosity as we honour the Autumn happening within us too.
It’s time to gather the harvest of what we’ve learnt, gained + seen come into fruition since the Spring.
And use this potent time to take stock of where we are, how we are and where we wish to go from here.
So I want to share with you some Journaling Prompts I’ve been sharing with my clients this week, to support you in your inner and outer journey into Autumn…
Take some time before letting your pen meet the paper to move your body, shake out, stretch, find a longer exhale + give yourself some time to settle down from the head into your body.
Make a commitment before you begin to not judge, shame or analyse your answers. Instead meet whatever you notice as valid, with a wholehearted curiosity.
As you acknowledge that Summer has passed and Autumn is here, what emotions are present for you? There may be a mixture of them. It may be hard to name or place them in the body. If this is the case for you, maybe notice if the emotions feel vulnerable or safe.
Autumn is very much about harvesting + taking stock…So what has the last six months brought you since the spring? Learning, experiences, loss, birth, growth, adventure, challenges?
What has come into fruition? and what hasn’t?
What am I grateful for from the last 6 months?
What have I learned now needs to fall away before the winter?
What has flowed into my life with ease over the last six months?
What out of the experiences decisions and actions I have taken over the last six months felt forced or led by a “should”?
As I slow down into autumn, what is it that I want to shed and allow to fall away?
What seeds am I planting now that I hope will come into fruition by the Spring?
How will you nurture them in the darker months ahead?
After you’ve moved through these enquiries, read back through your answers.
What do your answers stir in you?
Is there resistance to acknowledging any of the answers that came through?
